One Direction are a five-member boy band made up of Liam Payne (born 29 August 1993) from Wolverhampton, Louis Tomlinson (born 24 December 1991) from Doncaster, Niall Horan (born 13th September 1993) from Mullingar, Westmeath, Ireland, Harry Styles, (born 1 February 1994) from Holmes Chapel, Cheshire and Zayn Malik, (born 12 January 1993) from East Bowling, Bradford. They applied as solo candidates on the 2010 edition of the X Factor, but the judges, after a suggestion by Cowell, put them in a band in London, UK; therefore qualifying for the Groups category.

The single debuted on the UK Singles Chart at number one on 18 September 2011, shifting 153,965 copies, becoming the third fastest selling single of 2011. Their second single, "Gotta Be You", was released on 13 November 2011, which peaked at number three. Their debut album Up All Night was released on 21 November 2011. The album peaked at number two on the UK Albums Chart, selling 138,631 copies.
